Whole world is celebrating international yoga day every year. Like every other celebration such as marriage day, birth day, valentine day, and celebrating many other specific days, it should not be celebrated in a mechanical way so that one day we will remember and do some physical twist and turn stretching exercise, breathing exercises then forget everything about 364 days.
Yoga is becoming popular at present though real purpose of yoga that started in ancient India thousands of years ago to discover divinity or to explore spiritual goal of life. That time bramhachrya-garhasthya-banaprasthya-sannyas was predominant in social fabric of existence. Yogha karmasu koushalam, yogha chitta vritti nirodha and samattwam yogha uchchate was the living mantra to unite body, mind and soul. Now a day it has become a means to address physical fitness more than psycho-emotional-spiritual wellbeing. Thus, real purpose of practicing yoga is lost.
Career development and character building simultaneously is to be taken care of in all education process. Yogic ideas are to be implemented stage wise as a part of academic curricula as a compulsory subject as any other subject of study. It can not only alleviate some of the chronic physical disease and enhance immunity power to block new diseases to occur but also promote positive values and mental peace to elevate the quality of living and thereby bringing a harmonious relationship in the different section of people in the society.
As we are taking care of the body through prosperity (food, clothing and shelter) thus we need to take care of our mind and its necessity by providing peace, purpose and principles by practice of yoga regularly and right understanding about goal of life. Suicide rate among intelligent students and divorce rate in relationships is increasing because of lack of psycho-emotional resilient training. There is ego or identity crisis that can be addresses through understanding and applying yogic principles in life especially when one is healthy.
Most of our human threefold suffering through physical diseases, psychological depression and spiritual delusion can be addressed through practicing holistic yogic principles as per individual time temperament and tendencies. Medicine has its role in reducing physical diseases but for mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of health, it is yoga that can help with its holistic application which will win the case in the long run.
